  • Cameroon’s squad will get to camp from Sunday for the upcoming World Cup qualifier games against Mauritius Island and Libya

Last season’s UEFA Champions League best keeper and now Manchester United’s goal guard, Andre Onana has been included in the star-studded Cameroon’s 23-man squad to face Mauritius Island and Libya in their opening two FIFA World Cup qualifiers games later this month.

The 24-man squad named by coach Rigobert Song this Tuesday, November 7 has newcomers Faris Moumbanga and Junior Jean Baptiste Tchamadeu in the midst of regulars Jean Charles Castelletto, Vincent Aboubakar and Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa who missed last month’s international commitment due to an injury he recovered from less than ten days ago.

The Vincent Aboubakar-led team also sees the return of Georges Kevin Nkoudou who hasn’t been in the team since featuring in the FIFA World Cup late last year in Qatar.

The squad has a bunch of the players that helped their country reach their eighth FIFA World Cup tournament.

Amongst the three keepers called; Devis Epassy and Fabrice Ondoa, Onana is the only competitive keeper at the moment though his cousin Ondoa had made a number of unimpressive appearances.

Sivasspor’s forward Njie Clinton and defense man Harold Moukoudi from Athens who have been away from the national since they missed penalties during the 2021 AFCON semi final game against Egypt on home soil, have walked their way back to the National team after a fine run of brilliant performances put up at club lately, especially Clinton whose return was the most predictable.

However, some big absentees have been noted in the 23-man squad; the likes of prolific right-back, Fai Ngoran Collins, who has since the end of last season been without club. Midfielder regulars Kunde Malong, Martin Hongla and Jean Emile Onana are other major absentees.

Regular midfielders Olivier Ntcham and Kemen Olivier plus Jerome Ngom Bekeli who made headlines during the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar by assisting Aboubakar score the lone winning goal against Brazil.

Yvan Neyou returns to the team for the first time since AFCON 2021 on home soil on the heels of his brilliant season in Spain.

Cameroon will host Mauritania on November 17 at the Japoma Omnisport Stadium in Douala before traveling to Tunis to face Libya on November 21 in the first two games in a group D they share with Cape Verde Island, Angola and Eswatini.
