Buea United FC beat Kumba City FC by 3-2 after extra time on Tuesday at the Molyko Omnisport stadium to reach the semi-final of the Southwest Regional championship playoffs for the first time in three attempts.

Coach Agbor Emmanuel’s team scored twice in extra time to open a 3-1 lead in the contest that finished 1-1 after 90 minutes but still endured a nervy finale before eliminating their Kumba visitors.

Abena Jordan’s double including a debatable penalty counted for nothing in the end as goals from Ulysee Ledoux, Clifford Ngassa and Gabriel Enow for Buea United FC ensured they finally exact their revenge on the side that dumped them out of the competition in the last two seasons before failing in the semi-final stage.

Though he wasn’t amongst the scorers, substitute Motia Evaristus played a telling role – providing an assist for the breakthrough goal at the start of extra time which ended up being the turning point.

At the packed Molyko Omnisport stadium on a chill Tuesday afternoon, players of both clubs manifested their hunger for the result.

Despite five minutes of additional time Kumba City couldn’t get the equaliser as Buea United FC rather wasted the best chances to extend their lead and held on for a 3-2 win.

The Victory secures Buea United FC’s first entry into the quarter-final of the mini interpools in the president Kadji Varlery era.

Buea United will face Fako United in a Buea derby in the semi-final of the Southwest Regional championship playoffs this Thursday at Molyko Omnisport stadium.

Fako United secured their place in the last four by mauling Al Jazeera of Muyuka last Saturday at the same venue.
