Uganda close to breaking CHAN jinx

Uganda recorded a 1-0 crucial victory over West Africa giants Senegal on Wednesday evening to go top of group B at the CHAN championship in Algeria.

The lone strike for Uganda came in first half after captain Milton Karisa pounced on a well delivered cross from Semakula in the 33rd minute to cruise over come 10men Senegal .

The result meant this was Uganda’s second win at CHAN since 2014 ,SouthAfrica where Uganda edged Burkina Faso 2-1 in their group opener after failing to secure one at the 2016 ,2018 and 2020 edition.

Yesterday’s win now puts Uganda in contention to reach out the knock out stage for the first time in history after failing out from the past 5 editions.

The URA goal keeper saved Ousmane Diouf’s penalty kick early in the 26th minute to keep Uganda hopes alive.Initially was forced into a save from Cheikh Diouf after Senegal got an indirect freekick in the box .

Tunisian Referee Mehrez Melki was forced on at some intervals to make visit the screen monitor ,saw him waiving play on at start of second half after forward Uganda Milton Karisa claimed for a foul in the penalty box ,another was the red card decision on substitute Libasse Ngom after a serious tackle on Karim Watambala

The man of the Match Award was given to SC Villa player Semakula Kenneth.
The U20 graduate was a substitute in the first game against DRC ,but was named in starting lineup replacing Watambala.He recorded an assist after that beautiful cross that met Karisa at the right time.

Every team in group B stands a chance to make the cut to the knock out stage.Uganda lead on 4 points ,Senegal come second with 3 points ,DRC on 2 points and Ivory Coast currently standing on one point.
Tough fixtures as Sunday decides who goes through to the next round.
