Alelegn Azene has committed suicide and passed on aged 26
The midfielder leaves behind his wife whom he married few months ago and family to mourn him
He will be buried this Wednesday at Arba Minnich, his city of birth too
Ethiopian football is in shock following the news that Alelegn Azene, the highest paid player in the country’s top-flight championship, was found dead in his apartment this Wednesday, March 27 after he committed a suicide. However, details about the circumstances under which that has happened are unspecified.
The 26-year-old Bahir Dar city midfielder was adored in Ethiopia for his unique and exciting style of play and there was talk of him possibly moving on to a bigger club in the country.
Alelegn had been undergoing psychiatric therapy, according to several sources in Ethiopia.
Alelegn was born in January 14, 1998 in Arba Minnich, Ethiopia. He rose through the ranks of Mekelle Kenema FC, Hawassa Kenema FC and ended up becoming an icon in Ethiopian at Bahir Dar city, who made him one of the league’s highest paid player.
He won a handful of caps for his country and died before fulfilling his full potential.
