PWD’s pivot man Leonel Christian Mbida Ateba sparkled once more as they picked up a crucial 1-0 win to bring end an end to Aigle Royal de la Menoua’s nine game unbeaten run.

Ateba was a starter after being left on the bench in their 0-2 defeat to Stade Renard last time, he did just what was expected of him. The forward scored a belter 13 minutes upon kick-off to earn a fifth in 17 games this season for the Abakwa Boys, marking a winning start for Roger Constantine Bep.

The 24-year-old former youth international for Cameroon had a slow start to the season like his club, struggling to live up to get results and replicate his extraordinary breakthrough 2020/21 campaign for AS Fortuna when he would score for fun.

Bep solo restored Agbor Bogard and Burinyuy Derick to the starting XI and PWD started the game better, dominating Aigle in most parts

Ateba’s mini drought ended as he beat the Aigle keeper from outside the box.

Both sides came closer to scoring but poor finishing and good goalkeeping was their undoing.

El Pacha guided by former PWD coach struggled to break the Berynyuy and Bogard pairing to no avail.

The 2020 champions held their lead till the end, thus completing a double against Aigle.

Ateba has scored three goals and provided two assists in 13 games for PWD whose 16 points leaves them just a place above the root of the table.
