Cameroon’s flag bearers at the Olympics have on Tuesday received a sent off by the minister of sports and physical education, representative of the head of state to the upcoming Paris Olympics
The solemn ceremony saw Soppi Mbella Anita Richelle receive the National team flag in the premises of the Cameroon National Olympic and Sports Committee.
06 athletes from 04 sports disciplines will represent the country at this year’s Olympic Games, to be held in Paris, France, from 25th July to 11th August.
Soppi Mbella Anita Richelle will fly the colors of the team high in Judo. The 34-year-old hopes to add an Olympic medal to her cabinet after sweeping Four Gold medals this year, one of which was at African Judo Open in the +78 Category. She is classified as top four in her category just below french legend Teddy Riner. The former gold medallist at the University games wishes to hear the national anthem echoe in Paris when she becomes the Olympics champion.
Another category the country will be highly represented in is the table tennis with Sarah Hanffou. The PHD holder has competed in two Olympics championship, London 2012 and Tokyo 2021. She won her ticket to her third Olympics, Paris Olympic Games back in Kigali (Rwanda) during the last qualifying tournament for the African continent.She goes to Paris with hopes to better her previous showing.
Emmanuel Eseme in the men’s 100m and Linda Angounou in the women’s 400m hurdles are other Cameroonians to watch out for in Paris. Both scooped medals in the recently organized African athletics championship, where they expressed utmost desired to become Olympian champions in their different category.
The last discipline with two participants is swimming with Mabelo Nguelo and Sergio Guiche.
