A late strike from Syrielle Mbofewuie was all it took for AS Fortuna to earn a 1-0 win over Eding Sport Filles this Thursday in an advanced match day 9 fixture of the 2022/23 Guinness Super League.

The tenths of fans who turned out at the Olembe Annex stadium witnessed a tight contest between two confident sides keen on getting a win.

Fortuna pressed Eding from the opening moments, forced their cross town rivals to camp in their half in most of the opening exchanges as they sucked pressure and tried to break from the counter.

In terms of chances, there wasn’t much between the sides in the first 45 minutes though Marie Eple Noah on goal for Eding Filles had more to do.

There was a rare moment of demonstration of Diane Nadege Bayegla’s goalkeeping qualities earlier in the second half when Eding’s midfielder Cassandra Kuete Lambou broke into the box before hitting a low range shot gathered by the former.

Fortuna dominated most of the second segment but poor finishing and good goalkeeping was their undoing.

Coach Um Jean Stephane’s Fortuna were rewarded for their efforts four minutes from time when Syrielle Mbofewuie received a great boy into her weaker left foot but adjusted to fire it past Marie between the sticks for Eding.

Rose Layou, Ndzie Seme, Marie Ndzana and the rest of the Fortuna girls defended as a unit in the closing moments to back all three points from the center region derby.

The win is Fortuna’s sixth of season three of the Guinness Super League and it takes them up to the third spot on the log.

Eding keep their 7th spot on the log with 13 points after a fifth defeat in nine games so far.
