  • Former captain of the Côte d’Ivoire national football team, Serey Dié, is currently embroiled in a legal battle
  • His wife, Aline, has filed for divorce, and a Swiss tribunal is seeking his confirmation of receipt for the proceedings
  • However, Serey Dié has gone missing, leaving the court unable to proceed with the divorce due to the lack of acknowledgment

Former captain of the Côte d’Ivoire national football team, Serey Dié, is wanted by the Swiss court, specifically the civil court of Basel-Landschaft East, following divorce proceedings filed by his wife, Aline, two years ago.

According to several media outlets, the 39-year-old’s whereabouts have been unknown for two years now, making it difficult for the court to follow up on the case.

Serey Dié and his wife have been separated for some years now but are still legally married. The former player is known to have been unfaithful to their union on several occasions, with his involvement with popular singer Josey allegedly being the last straw that broke the camel’s back.

In mid-2022, Serey Dié publicly admitted to having an affair with the “Diploma” crooner, resulting in two children. This revelation caused significant turmoil, but Serey Dié has remained unresponsive to the divorce.

Under Swiss law, a divorce action requires an acknowledgment of receipt, which cannot be obtained as the Basel Official Journal does not know his whereabouts.

It’s uncertain whether he is aware of the divorce proceedings, as both parties seem to have been out of touch for a long time now. However, his acknowledgment needs to be given before the case can move forward.

Both parties have five children together from their years of marriage.

Before this case with his spouse, Serey Dié was known for his role as a defensive midfielder. He won the Swiss Cup twice with FC Sion and played a crucial part in Ivory Coast’s Africa Cup of Nations victory in 2015. His professional journey included stints with clubs like FC Basel, VfB Stuttgart, and FC Sion before retiring in 2022.
