The head coach of the Central African Republic (CAR) U-20 selection says his team completely missed their spark during their first two outings of the 2023 UNIFFAC U-20 Fatshi Cup tournament, but he expects a reaction on Friday against Gabon.

CAR who came into the tournament fresh from the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations and being deputy champions of the last zonal tournament have lost all two games so far.

Coach Ouagole revealed the reasons behind their below par performance during the pre-match conference before the final game of the tournament while expressing optimism.

“We are coming from the AFCON with a young team. They are not focused and giving as much as during the AFCON.”

The Central African Republic have participated in the past two AFCON tournaments and was tipped as favourites in the tournament especially after Cameroon backed out.

Unfortunately it didn’t happen for Tony Biakolo and mates though they have a chance to finish on a high on Friday against an exciting Gabon team.

“I can’t recognize some of my players during this tournament. We came to win, but it has not been so. We hope to be at our best tomorrow to savage our honor and that of our people,” Ouagole said.

Toulouse FC defender, Tony Biakolo who was at the presser too confessed African football getting tougher as it progresses and said he is lucky to be around.”

CAR is up against Gabon in the first fixture this Friday while hosts DR Congo grind ashes with neighbors Congo Republic in the second game.

The nation with the highest number of points will bag $60 000 set aside as prize and participation returns for the champions.
