- Fabrice Ondoa’s three saves couldn’t prevent Riga FS from a first defeat in 22 games on ThursdayÂ
- Despite the 1-2 shock defeat to FK Auda, Ondoa’s Riga FS still remain leaders in the Latvian top-flight championship with a six points cushion on Riga FCÂ
Fabrice Joseph Ebogo Ondoa’s former Club, FK Auda dented their journey to the Latvian championship glory on Thursday evening as they came from a goal down to beat the aspiring league winners by 1-2 in a pulsating 2024/25 Virsliga fixture.
The thousands of home fans who turned out to watch Ondoa and mates continue their stride to yet another domestic championship crown were offered a real reality check after being subject to early excitement from what ended up being a disappointing game for them as they watch their club lose a domestic game for the first time in 22 matches.
Coach Viktors Morozs men failed to build on their early advantage and rather let Auda score twice in extreme moments of the game to get all three points from their visit to LNK Sporta Park.
As expected the game got off to a best possible start when Janis Ikaunieks fired home off an assist from Victor Osuagwu to spark wild celebrations in the scenes of the stands.
Despite conceding just six minutes into the contest and being on the back foot foot for the best part of the first segment, Auda remained organised and determined to contain the host and hurt them via their rare opportunities during the game.
That early domination and the advantage gave Riga FS advantage to go for broke but Krisjanis Zviedris was outstanding all afternoon, making six saves in all.
Nigerian midfielder Abiodun Ogunniyi started the comeback by scoring a 75th minute equaliser and despite losing coach Zoran Zeljkovic following his sending off in the 82nd minute of the game, Auda scored a last minute winner via Abdulrahman Taiwo, also from Nigeria.
The stoppage time efforts from the home side couldn’t help them fashion their way back into the contest whose end marked a first defeat in 22 Latvian competition matches.
Despite suffering the defeat, Riga FS are hold a six points gap on Riga FC and remains atop the Latvian top-flight championship.
Ondoa who made three saves in the game will be hoping they can improve in their next domestic championship outing, against Takuma 2000 on Sunday.
