Nigeria midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi has been ruled out of the Nigeria squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire.
This development was confirmed in a post on Nigeria Super Eagles social media pages on Wednesday.
Ndidi was ruled out due to injuries in which case he won’t be fit enoughh for the tournament which will commence on January 13, 2024, in Abidjan.
He has scored two goals with five assists for English Championship leaders, Leicester City after 21 league games.
23-year-old Royal Antwerp midfielder, Alhassan Yusuf will replace Ndidi in the final 25-man roster as he is expected to join his teammates in camp in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Yusuf has bagged two assists for Royal Antwerp after 15 league games for the Begian top fligt side.
Meanwhile, Ndidi teammate at Leicester City, Kelechi Iheanacho is still hopeful to join the Super Eagles before AFCON commences.
