Ogun State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has urged the state government to start preparation earnestly ahead of the hosting of the next National Sports Festival.
After the successful hosting of the 2022 edition in Asaba, Delta State, Ogun stated have been announced as the next host for Nigeria’s version of the Olympics.
In a communique of Ogun SWAN at its Congress held on Thursday, January 12, 2023, at MKO Abiola Stadium, Kuto Abeokuta, it “commended the state government for hosting team Ogun after their outing at the 2022 National Sports Festival (NSF) in Asaba, Delta state and urged the government to redeem its promises to the athletes.”
The Congress urged the state government to start preparing for the hosting of the 2024 national sports festival in earnest while calling on the state government to partner with the association to ensure successful hosting.
It also urged the state government to start implementing both the sports commission and the sports trust fund laws to ease the administration and promotion of sports in the state.
The Congress observed the ongoing coverage of the popular stands at the MKO Stadium in Kuto, Abeokuta, and urged the state government to take a step further by upgrading facilities at the Stadium and other Stadia across the State.
As a matter of urgency, it tasked the government to provide basic training facilities and equipment at state sporting centres.
The Congress called on the state government to provide maximum support for Gateway United Football Club to ensure the promotion of the club from the second tier of the Nigeria National League (NNL) to the top-flight Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
