Following the the impressive performance of some Nigeria youngsters across europe in recent months, the focus on Nigerian players has continue to be on the rise with top Football agents, managers of the game searching for talents of Nigeria decent in Europe for management.
One of such players is Obekpa Gabriel, who currently ply his trade with FK IMT Belgrade in the Serbia first division league which is equivalent to the second tier of the Serbian National league system.
The 19-year-old defensive midfielder who can also play as a centre back is known for his aerial prowess, good tackling and passing abilities, as well as posses the quality to shore up the defence and midfield play.
The young talented player who joined the under 19 side of the Serbian outfit in October 2022, from Dynamo Academica of Benin city, Edo state in Nigeria, has since been promoted to the first team of the club following his impressive and quality display each time he gets the opportunity to play.
Monitoring the progress of the Nigerian in Serbia, the players intermediary Marko Gvozdenovic said the talented youngster has brought about competitiveness to the team since his arrival, describing Obekpa Gabriel as having huge abilities and potentials to succeed at FK IMT Belgrade.
On his part, Obekpa Gabriel who has been in top shape for his club side said he will continue to work hard with his teamates to help FK IMT Belgrade gain promotion to the Serbian top flight league to repay the faith the management of the club bestowed on him.
“I am happy to be here, and I have learnt so much since my arrival from Nigeria, is a dream come true for me,
“I will continue to work hard with my teammates to achieve the ultimate goal, and that’s gaining promotion with my team to the the top flight league here, and that will be the only way to repay the faith the management of my team bestowed on me for giving me the opportunity to showcase my talent, Obekpa stated.
With Five matches to end the league, FK IMT Belgrade currently lead the table of the 16 team league format with 53 Points from 25 matches, closely followed by second place team Zeleznicar FC on 49 Points and third place Graficar on 44 Points.
No doubt this young talented Nigerian, Obekpa Gabriel can fit into any of the aged grade National teams of Nigeria if given the opportunity especially the Flying Eagles who are about to begin preparation for the FIFA under 20 world cup that will take place in Indonesia this year.
