Rivers United FC of Nigeria have been paired against reigning Tanzanian champions Young Africans (Yanga) football club of Tanzania in the quarter-final of the 2022/23 CAF Champions League
The event carried out this Wednesday, April 4 at the Mövenpick Hotel Cairo, Egypt produced some sensational fixtures in the last eight of the competition amongst which is the meeting of the Nigerian and Tanzanian champions.
Yanga won group D ahead US Monastir, Real Bamako and TP Mazembe with 13 points from a possible 18 while Rivers finished second to ASEC Memosas in group B to earn qualification ahead of Diables Noir and DC Motema Pembe.
Elsewhere, Tunisian giants US Monastir who finished behind Yanga SC in Group D will face legendary Cote D’Ivoire outfit ASEC Memosas who edged Rivers in match day six to win group B.
USM Alger will face group C winners AS FAR Rabat of Morocco in a clash that will revive the Algeria-Morocco confrontation.
Double runners-up Pyramids face impressive South African Marumo Gallants that accumulated 12 points to win group A.
The first-leg of the ties will be played in the last-but-one weekend of April while the second-leg matches are scheduled for the last weekend of the month.
The winner between Rivers United and Yanga will battle the winner between Pyramids SC and Gallants in the semi-final.
The other semi-finalists will be produced by the ties of USM Alger against AS Far and USM versus ASEC Memosas.
The final of this season’s competition returns to the home and away format of the yesteryear.
