Former Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon goal Annette Flore Ngo Ndom says Marthe Ongmahan has got the required credentials to deputize for suspended Bawou Ange on Wednesday morning when Cameroon face Portugal in the final of the 2023 Women’s FIFA World Cup playoff.

24 hours before the crucial fixture the social media is heated about which of Cathy Biya or Marthe Ongmahan will be coach Gabriel Zabo’s choice for the game.

According to Ngo Ndom who played at two FIFA World Cup and three Africa Cup of Nations tournaments both keepers available have good qualities but experience could make the difference.

Young Biya has played for the junior national teams while Marthe has been in competitions. She was a part of the team at the 2018 AWCON and the 2019 FIFA World Cup. Yes it’s true she didn’t play but from the bench players are involved. So I think Marthe can do the job,” Ngo Ndom stated in an interview on Douala-based RSI.

Cathy Biya has been one of the sensation in the Guinness Super League championship this season while Marthe won the best keeper award after helping Awa Filles to secure a second domestic title last season.

The decision to play either of these talented keepers rest on coach Zabo and the guidance of goalkeeper trainer Andrea Nyamsi who is not a stranger to such situations.

Cameroon has a long standing history of selection problems when it comes to goalkeepers – even forward Gladys Ewodo who played the last minutes of the game Thailand produced some excellent saves.

A win for Cameroon will secure a third consecutive FIFA World Cup appearance and guarantee a place in Australia and New Zealand later this year.
