Forward Nana Wilfred was amongst the goals Fovu of Baham got off to a great start of the second segment of the current MTN Elite One season.

Fovu of Baham made a winning return, defeating AS Fortuna by 2-0 in Yaoundé this Sunday in Matchday 12 of the championship.

In the presence of over 5000 fans at the Ngoa Ekelle Stadium Ngando Eheck Cyrille and Nana Wilfred scored in either half as Coach Guy Bertin Djieonang’s charges picked up their fifth win in 11 games in this campaign.

Fovu came into the contest on a run of three games without defeat and having kept a clean sheet in their last two games didn’t look different on the day.

The Yongwa Boys got up to a best possible start when forward Ngando received a good ball through which he made it 1-0 just after seven minutes.

The goal galvanized the hosts who were better and more engaged in almost every duel.

Coach Guy, for whom this was a personal affair against his former employers, stayed on his feet in most of the first half. His passion and tact kept his players going till the interval.

At the break, Fovu was a goal to the good, but there was more to come.

It was almost the same scenario on resumption for the second segment. Fovu took control, pegged back their host who could barely get hold of the ball.

The year 2000 Elite winners were rewarded for their persistence at the 67th minute when the Referee pointed to the spot after it was adjudged Nana was fouled in the box.

The former NGV striker and last season’s West Regional League top scorer put the game to bed with a neatly taken spot kick that left goalkeeper Fansu Ismael rooted to the spot.

Both sides created a number of half chances in the final 23 minutes but didn’t do enough to add to the two goals the visitors had scored earlier.

The latest win is Fovu’s 5th of the season. It takes their points tally to 18, two points behind leaders Bamboutos FC after their defeat to YOSA on the day.

Fovu is having the time of their life at the moment in Elite One while Fortuna faces dwindling fortunes.

Fortuna is a point off the bottom side Dragon who only picked up nine points in 11 matches this season.
