The MTN Elite One championship resumed over the weekend after a one-week break, producing 11 goals across all fixtures. Stade Renard of Melong remain the only side yet to register a win this season, extending their poor run after nine matches.
At the Roumde Adjia Stadium in Garoua, two matches were staged. Hosts Coton Sport of Garoua secured a 2-1 victory over Aigle Royal of Menoua, while Gazelle FA were held to a goalless draw by Dynamo of Douala.
Defending champions Colombe Sportive du Dja et Lobo continue to struggle for consistency, playing out a 0-0 draw away to league leaders Unisport of Bafang.
In one of the most dramatic fixtures of Matchday 9, Canon Sportif de Yaoundé defeated PWD of Bamenda 3-1 in Yaoundé. The game was marred by disciplinary issues, with referee Abdoul Abdel issuing 10 cards — six yellows and four reds. Both sides finished with nine men, as two players from each team were sent off.
PWD’s assistant captain Nguimbat Junior was dismissed for unsporting conduct against Nathan Doualla — his second red card in just eight matches this season. The club’s team doctor was also sent off. On Canon’s side, both the head coach and player Mbandjock were dismissed.
PWD have now suffered three defeats in eight matches and will host AS Fortuna of Mfou on March 18. Canon, meanwhile, recorded their third win of the season and will face Colombe Sportive du Dja et Lobo on Matchday 10.
At the bottom of the table, Aigle Royal of the Moungo fell 2-0 at home to AS Fortuna of Mfou, thanks to a brace from Asaah Solomon, who now boasts five goals and two assists this season.
Stade Renard of Melong were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Panthère Sportive du Ndé, extending their winless streak. They remain the only team without a victory this campaign and will next face leaders Unisport of Bafang. Panthère, on their part, travel to Limbe to take on Victoria United.
Matchday 9 concluded on Monday, March 16 in Yaoundé, where Victoria United were held to a goalless draw by Fauve Azur Elite. “Opopo” are now unbeaten in their last five matches, recording three wins and two draws, and sit sixth on the table with 14 points.
