Blaise Djounang, the Secretary General of the Cameroon football federation (FECAFOOT) has issued a release announcing Douala as the host city of the title and relegation playoff for the 2022/23 MTN Elite One championship.
The release signed this Friday April 28 revealed the four clubs to be involved in the title deciding fixtures plus two others battling relegation will be in Douala between May 14-21 to climax the ongoing season.
The announcement puts an end to previous speculations about the event which spectacularly marked the end of last season in Garoua.
The best two clubs in Pool A and B of the abridged championship will face each other in a league format next month to determine the next champions of the competition Cotonsport won last season.
So far Bamboutos FC of Mbouda and Gazelle FA are through to the title playoff in Group B while the two clubs from pool B are yet to be known. Canon Yaounde, 2019 Champions UMS of Loum and 17-time winners Cotonsport are close to securing qualification.
Uncertainty looms over the names of the two clubs to make the relegation playoff as it is still opened to as many as ten clubs ahead of the final round of matches this weekend.
As part of planning for the playoffs and the draw of the Regional Cup and the Cup of Cameroon and the playoffs, members of the national commission of competitions are expected in Yaounde early next week.
