MTN Elite One champs Victoria United begin trophy tour

2023/24 MTN Elite One champions Victoria United FC of Limbe and entered a new phase in celebration of their maiden MTN Elite One championship title with a trophy tour this Tuesday, April 23 in Yaoundé.

OPOPO as they are fondly called took to the streets of Cameroon’s political capital from earlier today, displaying their trophy to fans by the roadside while on their way to the Star Building for a reception organized by the Prime minister and head of Government, Joseph Dion Ngute who handed a sum of 10 millions FCFA to the team.

The busy day which started in church saw Nathan Douala and co meet a number of top government officials in addition to the Prime minister as part of celebration of the crown they won last Thursday after a 2-2 draw against Stade Renard.

The 2017 Cup of Cameroon finalist are expected expected to return to the Douala on Wednesday for a continuation of the tour guided by MTN Cameroon – the competitions naming sponsor.

The team is expected to visit a number of strategic institutions on Wednesday in Douala before returning to its base in Limbe.

Players and staff of the Southwest mythical club are expected to move from the Littoral region to Buea for a meeting with the governor and other authorities before moving to its fief in Limbe in a charged Wednesday.

Inspired by the brilliance of top scorer Richmond Nji, Victoria United FC on their return to the top-flight for the first time in over 20 years stunned doubters by outsmarting big guns to claim the covered MTN Elite One championship crown amidst the controversies around the triumph.

Courtesy of its status as Cameroon’s champions Limbe-based outfit will represent the country in next season’s CAF Champions League preliminaries expected to begin later this year.
