Moroccan Athletes to Receive Record Bonuses for Paris 2024 Olympics

The Moroccan National Olympic Committee has announced a substantial incentive for athletes competing in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, offering $200,000 to gold medalists.

This bonus is among the highest for this Olympic edition, with silver and bronze medalists receiving $125,000 and $75,000, respectively.

In team sports, the rewards vary based on team size, with gold-winning teams of 2-4 members earning approximately $100,000 each.

This initiative aims to motivate athletes and improve Morocco’s Olympic performance, following a disappointing showing at the Tokyo 2020 Games, where they finished in 63rd position with one gold medal.

This year, this North African country is taking 60 athletes to Paris, comprising 42 men and 18 women, who will participate in the Games across 19 disciplines.

This is the country’s second-largest delegation after 72 athletes in 2012.

The number of qualified athletes according to the disciplines: Athletics (13), Rowing (1), Beach Volleyball (2), Boxing (3), Breaking (2), Canoeing (2), Cycling (2), Fencing (2), Football (18), Golf (1), Judo (3), Wrestling (1), Swimming (2), Skateboarding (1), Equestrian Sports (2), Surfing (1), Taekwondo (2), Sport Shooting (1), and Triathlon (1).

The Paris 2024 Olympic Games are expected to be one of the most competitive and exciting editions in recent history. With the introduction of new events and the return of several sports, athletes from around the world will be vying for gold.

Morocco’s athletes will face tough competition, but with the added motivation of a substantial bonus, they will be well-positioned to achieve their goals.

The committee’s decision to offer such a large bonus is also significant because it sets a precedent for other national Olympic committees. It highlights the importance of financial incentives in motivating athletes and the need for national committees to be proactive in supporting their athletes. Reports have it that Serbia, Malaysia, Poland are some of the countries to have made substantial pledges.

The Paris 2024 Olympic Games will be held from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
