French Ligue 1 club, Olympic of Lyon’s head coach Laurent Blanc has slammed critics after the club’s forward, Karl Toko Ekambi who has in the past few months faced a lot of criticism from fans for not living up to expectations.

The gaffer has faith in Ekambi’s capabilities and believes a little reform can bring back the striker to full force as it were before.

In the pre-match press conference for Lyon vs Strasbourg, coach Laurent Blanc defended his striker.

“Toko Ekambi is a complete player, who dribbles and goes fast. He has the sense of the game. It is true that his productions in match are not up to what he shows in training. There must be a problem. Well, we discuss together, he needs to regain confidence.” Laurent Blanc said.

For a while now, the 30-year-old Cameroonian striker has not been in his best of form especially since the coming of Laurent Blanc as head coach of the club, giving him less playing time.

It became even more pronounced when the striker was named in Cameroon’s 2022 FIFA World Cup squad and was way below expectations as starter in three games played.

According to reports from attacker.com some time back, the French Ligue 1 club had plans on parting ways with Toko Ekambi during the transfer window but then again, he’s still got a chance to make the difference.

The Indomitable Lions striker was given a 58 minutes chance against Strasbourg in Matchday 19 of the Ligue 1. Today’s performance arguably, was a lot better than some previous editions.

Karl Toko Ekambi has scored four goals and made two assists in 19 matches so far in the 2022/2023 Ligue 1 season.
