  • Their new status were confirmed following match day six defeats in the relegation playoff on Wednesday
  • The third club to be relegated will be determined by the clash of Renaissance of Ngoumou and Foncha Street FC on Saturday though AS FAP who face Unisport can also be dragged into trouble waters

Leopard Sportif of Douala and Rangers of Bafut have been relegated to the Littoral and Northwest Regional League of FECAFOOT respectively.

Their new status was confirmed on Wednesday following Rangers’ 1-2 defeat against FAP and Leopard’s 0-2 defeat against resurgent Renaissance FC of Ngoumou on match day six of the MTN Elite Two championship.

Both clubs endured a tough regular season in the second tier of Cameroon football, condemning to battle for their survival through the relegation playoffs which wasn’t any different.

Rangers only accumulated four points during the playoffs, losing four of their six games played so far while Leopard only prevented a defeat once – during a 1-1 draw against Foncha Street FC on match day of the playoffs.

Rangers’ starting XI against FAP

Rangers finished fifth in the previous season of the MTN Elite Two championship but the wheels came off this season following the mass exodus of players. For Leopard, the ghost of relegation which has policed them in the past three seasons has finally caught up with them.

Leopard’s problems this season have been well documented to the extent that the club skipped their match day five commitment against AS FAP citing a strike action from the players.

Though the club reached out to FECAFOOT requesting a postponement of the fixture after absenting, it is unlikely that their request will be considered. They expected to lose the game plus three points in their general classification though they only have a point going into their final game of the season against YAFOOT.

Rangers will crown their four years in the second tier championship with an anglophone derby against table topping ISOHSA of Limbe on Saturday at the Bafang Municipal stadium.

The game between Renaissance of Ngoumou and Foncha Street FC will produce the third club to be relegated while ISOHSA of Limbe, Unisport of Bafang and FC Yaounde II are certain about being in Elite Two next season.

The last round of matches in the eight-club relegation playoffs will be played this Saturday in Bafang and Mbouda.

The result of the match day seven meeting of Renaissance FC and Foncha Street FC will have a telling role about the third club to be relegated at the end of the 21-game season.

The rest of the eight clubs of the championship are battling for promotion in another mini championship in which the likes of TKC, Panthere and Aigle Royal of Moungo are faring slightly better than the rest going into the money day of the season.
