Intermediate Lions of Cameroon forward Leonel Ateba Christian Mbida and Ndiforchu Blaise were unplayable on Friday at the Kouekong Stadium in Bafoussam as PWD of Bamenda dispatched fellow MTN Elite One side Fauve Azur Elite 4-0 in the 16th finals of the 2023 Cup of Cameroon.
Ateba scored the third for coach Roger Constantine Bep’s side and assisted one of Ndiforchu’s goal while Tendong James Elton scored a brace to help the Abakwa Boys cruise into the eighth finals.
It was a perfect display of attacking football from the PWD frontline that entered the game on the heels of a 7-1 win in the previous round and showed it wasn’t a fluke.
Ndiforchu put the Abakwa Boys ahead with almost the first attack of the game. Blaise played a quick one-two with Ateba before sending the ball home to make it 1-0.
Tendoh made it 2-0 minutes later with a fine header. Ndiforchu created space in the right flank and whipped a great ball into the forehead of the U20 Lions full-back who directed it into goal.
Tendoh doubled his cup tally earlier in the second segment, before Ateba added a fourth.
Ateba picked a fine ball from his attacking colleagues, beat two defenders before finding the back of the net to make it 4-0.
Substitutes Brilliant Awahmukala and Abanke Eric also came close but the score remained unchanged as the 1979 finalists won to advance to the eighth finals of this season’s competition.
Former YOSA and EEMSA of Tiko goalkeeper cum forward, Ndiforchu is among the top scorers in the competition this season with three goals to his credit.
PWD of Bamenda will be in Monday’s draw to determine the match pairings for the eighth final expected to start next week.
