Lekie Filles tightens grip atop with 2-0 win against Caiman

Lekie Filles have boasted their chance of winning their first Guinness Super League title with a 2-0 win over Caiman of Douala in match day 15 of the Cameroon Women’s top-flight championship.

An own goal from custodian Patience Blessings and a goal from Lekie Filles midfielder Tantoh Melvis Ngifor scored in either half as coach Stephane Ndzana’s team outclassed their struggling visitors from Douala to open a six points gap on closest rivals Eclair of Sa’a who are yet to play their game in the latest round of matches.

Lekie Filles took control of the game from the opening moments, denying their visitors possession in the best part of the first half hour.

They had the first reward for their efforts just before the break.

Marie Giselle Ngah Manga galloped into space and put laces behind the ball but her 41st minutes efforts hit the woodwork and rechocate off the back of Blessings behind rolling into the Caiman net.

The aspiring champions took the slim advantage to the break though they were better against a Caïman side that also had their moments.

The best chance of the second segment was Tabe Brenda’s but this time around the reliable forward didn’t deliver from the penalty spot.

Lekie Filles won a penalty midway into the second half and Brenda was given the opportunity to double the advantage from the spot. Unfortunately, the ever-reliable forward didn’t get it right this time around.

The score remained 1-0 as coach Ndzana of Lekie and Tatiana Eboumbou of Caiman made alterations different reasons. Lekie was seeking the insurance goal while Caiman were keen on leveling scores.

The host were finally rewarded when substitute Tantoh Melvis Ngifor scored the second goal goal and her second of the season to make it 2-0 deep into added time.

The game finished 2-0, thus amounting to a 12th win for who take their points tally to 38 so far.

Lekie’s closest challengers are Éclair with 32 while FC Ebolowa and Authentic Ladies FC are on 27 points each.
