Cameroon’s Lekie Football Filles will head into the decisive final day of the CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers with qualification firmly within their grasp after a stunning 7-0 demolition of AC Colombe of Congo on Match Day Two in Yaounde.
The Cameroonian champions produced another commanding display at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium, scoring seven times without reply to move to the top of the UNIFFAC Zone standings on four points and a superior goal difference.
Brenda Tabe was the star of the show, completing a hat-trick as Lekie FF underlined their attacking strength ahead of Friday’s decisive encounter with FA Msichana of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Adrienne Mekuko opened the scoring in the 22nd minute before Yolanda Zoua doubled the advantage two minutes later. Brenda Tabe then struck in the 35th minute to give Lekie a commanding 3-0 lead at half-time.
Tabe added her second goal in the 55th minute and completed her hat-trick just 20 minutes later, while Mekuko also scored her second of the match in the 56th minute. Nicole Ndjock completed the rout from the penalty spot in the 88th minute.
The hat-trick takes Tabe’s tournament tally to four goals in two matches, making her the current leading scorer of the UNIFFAC qualifying tournament.
The result leaves Lekie FF on four points with a +7 goal difference, level on points with FA Msichana but ahead of the Congolese side on goal difference.
FA Msichana remain unbeaten after playing out a goalless draw with Equatorial Guinea’s FC 15 de Agosto de Akonibe. That result leaves Msichana on four points, while FC 15 de Agosto have two points and AC Colombe remain bottom without a point.
Friday’s decisive finale
Everything will be decided on Friday when Lekie FF face FA Msichana in what is effectively a top-of-the-table showdown.
The equation is simple for Lekie: a victory would secure the initiative in their quest for qualification, while the result could also come down to goal difference depending on how the final matches unfold.
With both Lekie and Msichana sitting on four points, the final-day meeting promises to be a tense battle between the two sides still chasing the UNIFFAC Zone’s place at the CAF Women’s Champions League finals.
In the other final-day fixture, FC 15 de Agosto de Akonibe will face AC Colombe, with the Equatorial Guinean side looking to finish the competition strongly.
