Legend Academy of Kumba wins the Southwest Women’s League

A one-nil win over fellow divisional championship side, Kumba Lakers on Tuesday, August 7,2023 inspired Legend football academy to a second consecutive Southwest women’s regional league title.

Midfielder Emmanuela Wose was on target at the 15th minute at the GPS Field, as the girls of Kingsley Etoh completed a two legged win, 7-1, over the Lakers girls.

Tuesday’s victory ensured Legend to top the pool in the Region with 12 points, scoring a total of 15 goals, conceding one in four league appearances.

Before this, Legend had dispatched Limbe side Royal Falcons 8-0 home and away.

Petronila Ankunga finished the championship as the highest goal scorer with four goals, followed by Kelda Mane, Kum Franka , Mbaku Berrinette with two goals each.

The 2022/2023 season of the Southwest Regional championship had just three participants, Royal Falcons of Limbe, Legend Football Academy and Kumba Lakers all paired in group A.

The champions have their ticket to the upcoming National Interpools, which will see them play other regional best, for a place in Cameroon’s women’s top-flight, The Guinness super League.

Their 2022 attempt could only take them to the semi-finals where they lost heavily 1-12 to AS Fortuna of Mfou.
