Promised to be delivered on December 31, 2022, we are now on November 27, 2023 and the Bamenda Proximity Stadium under construction in Bamendakwe, a locality in Bamenda 1 subdivision of the North West region is still a shadow of itself.

Though work is advancing in a snail pace, the stadium is gradually taking shape as the grandstand has been constructed.

Below are latest images of the stadium as another December 31 approaches.

It’s now three seasons that elite one clubs of the North West region have not played a single league match Bamenda. This has greatly reduced the influence of the 12th man as these clubs have been battling against relegation during this period.

In a recent letter addressed to Cameroon’s Prime Minister and Head of Government Chief Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute by Mr. Chi Chinda Chido Mitterrand Francois president of Yong Sports Academy of Bamenda, the club will withdraw from the championship if their home matches are not programmed in Bamenda at the Yong Sports arena in Mile 6 Nkwen Bamenda.

The Cameroon Football Federation FECAFOOT and the Transitional Body in charge of organizing the league therefore have a difficult decision to make in the days ahead regarding the demands of the club.

The Yong Sports arena had hosted elite one, elite two and Guinness Super League matches prior to the coming of the Samuel Eto’o Fils led FECAFOOT bureau and according to our sources, the stadium is ready to host matches again like before.
