Despite Comoros completing the double over Lesotho in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers after a late goal secured a narrow 1-0 win at the Orlando Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa on Saturday evening, they will miss the roundevous in Cote D’Ivoire.

Coach Younes Zerdouk’s side needed victory to keep their slim qualification hopes alive and Youssouf M’Changama duly delivered when he struck in the final minute, although they were eliminated after Zambia beat Cote D’Ivoire 3-0 in Ndola to qualify for the final stage of the AFCON.

The victory of Comoros over Lesotho takes them to 6 points in their group. But Zambia recorded a stunning 3#0 victory over AFCON host Cote D’Ivoire to qualify.

Comoros made a bright start in the match, creating three scoring opportunities inside the first five minutes of the match.

Younn Zahary made a good save out of Sekhoane Moerane with a shot in the third minute before Kassim M’Dahoma and Ahmed Mogni failed to hit the target with their respective shots from inside the box.

Lesotho had their first sight at goal on 10th minutes of play when Motebang Sera latched onto a through-ball from Basia Makepe and fired straight at goalkeeper Yannick Pandor from inside the 18-yard area.

Lesotho goalkeeper was eventually beaten at the death of the match when M’Changama got on the end of Ibroihim Djoudja’s cross to score the winner from close range.

After a good performance in Cameroon during the last AFCON, Comoros will not be present in Cote D’Ivoire for the 2023 edition.
