In their debut at the Easter Cup, Aigle of Menoua emerged from the group stage unblemished, amassing seven points across three matches.
Under the guidance of a female coach, the team sparked intrigue among fans and supporters, eager to witness her tactical acumen against seven male counterparts in the competition.
Amidst skepticism, Coach Fiedjeu Fotsing Charline silenced doubters by securing a goalless draw against the formidable Best Stars of Limbe on the opening day.
On the second day, the team triumphed over Colombe, courtesy of a 28th-minute strike from captain N. Fonkou.
Facing Anafoot, the Menoua squad maintained their defensive stronghold, clinching a 2-0 victory. Seye Fonkou Ulric initiated the scoring with a penalty, followed by Fomekon Cliff sealing the win.
Aigle stands alone as the only team to have clinched two victories in the group phase.
In response to this feat, Coach Charline credited the team’s success to collective effort and camaraderie.
“The elation is overwhelming and beyond words. Contrary to many expectations, we’ve delivered,” she expressed. “I assured everyone of a strong performance and surprises at the press conference, and we’ve consistently delivered just that.
“The level of competition is intense, with every team arriving well-prepared. However, it’s our distinctiveness that sets us apart.
“Our secret lies in our unity. We focus on the mental fortitude of our players and foster a familial bond. When united, I see no force that can halt our progress,” she declared.
Coach Charline has been in charge of Aigle’s youth team for a while now, the former player found interest in coaching post her playing career.
Aigle is set to continue their journey in the semi-finals this Thursday, facing Union Sportive of Abong Mbang at the Reunification Annex Stadium.
