VFL Bochum midfielder Pierre Kunde Malong has scored his first goal for his new club in their five 2-5 defeat against former club Mainz last Sunday in match day 19 of the German Bundesliga.

The 27-year-old was given the chance to make his start for Bochum and didn’t disappoint though the final score was dissatisfactory.

Karim Onisiwo scored a hat trick while Lee Jae Song and Silvan Widmar scored the other goals for Mainz who had two replies from Bochum’s Pierre Kunde in the 70th minute and Erhan Mašović few minutes later but held on to record a win.

The game at the Mewa Arena ended in a 5-2 score in favour of the hosts. The result ended Bochum’s run of three victories in a row and dragged them back into trouble.

Mainz move up to the 11th spot in the Bundesliga but that result drags Bochum back into the relegation zone with 19 points from 18 games.

Bochum host Hoffenheim in their next fixture on Saturday, hoping to return to winning ways.

Kunde joined the club from Greek side Olympiakos on a six months loan in January and the weekend appearance was his second in less than three weeks on board.

The Cameroon international will be hoping to get more game time to enhance his chances of making the cut for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Cote D’Ivoire next January.
