Kenya and Russia will play a friendly match on October 16 in Antalya, Turkey, as part of their preparations for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
The match will take place at the stadium of the Titanic Mardan Sports Complex hotel, where both teams will be lodging.
The friendly has been arranged after a long and unsuccessful search for sparring partners by the Russian Football Union (RFU), which faced difficulties due to its suspension from international competitions over its doping violations and the invasion of Ukraine.
With the Doping Violation ban reduced by the court of arbitration for sports, the team is back to preparing for the world cup qualifiers. A meeting with Kenya, the 109th country according to the lastest FFA ranking, will help test the new coach Sergei Semak and the new players.
As for the Kenya football federation, this is a perfect opportunity to sharpen their skills after their 24-month ban.
Kenya to clash with Russia in Turkey The KFF Secretary General, Barry Otieno, said that the friendly match will help the Harambee star to gain valuable experience and exposure ahead of their crucial matches against Mali and Uganda in November.
The match between these sides will be their first-ever meeting at senior level. The game will also mark the first visit of the Kenyan President, William Ruto, to Turkey since he assumed office in August. Ruto is expected to attend the match and hold talks with his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, on bilateral and regional issues.
It also coincides with the celebration of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Kenya and Russia, which were established on December 14, 1963.
