Kamilou Daouda gutted by Coton’s situation

Legendary captain of Cotonsport of Garoua Kamilou Daouda has revealed he is unhappy about the present run of results for the Cotonites in the group stage of the CAF Champions League this season.

The 36-year-old lamented the club’s four defeats in four outings during Thursday’s pre-match at the Roumde Adjia stadium as they prepare to challenge fellow strugglers Al Ahly SC in match day five of the competition.

Quizzed on whether the players motivation will come from the additional bonus for the game or love for the club, Kamilou was emotional in his response.

“When I see myself at the club and the fact that the club has zero points after four games I am very disappointed. We are going to give our best to win the game. It’s not about money.

“Tomorrow’s game will be different because we are already out of the competition. We will play without pressure and give our best to win the game,” Kamilou explained.

Kamilou scored eight goals during Coton’s run to the 2008 Champions League, but hasn’t been a regular in the competition this season. He missed defeats to Al Ahly in Cairo and Al Hilal SC. His return to the squad could lift the atmosphere in the dressing room going into the clubs tenth fixture against the ten-time champions.

The game scheduled at 5PM local time in the capital city of Cameroon’s Northern region is an avenue to restore Coton’s dignity as one of the big guns while for Al Ahly SC the Roumde Adjia stadium provides a platform for them to win and keep their qualification hopes alive.

Mamelodi Sundowns currently lead Group B with ten points, a point better than second-seeded Al Hilal ahead of a meeting of both sides this weekend.

Al Ahly counts four points after four games, but a win for them and a defeat to Al Hilal blows the second place in the group wide open going into match day six.
