Still basking in the euphoria of his team’s victory over elite domestic league giants, Nasarawa United, at the final of the Nasarawa State Federation Cup, Chief Executive Officer of Basira Football Club of Lafia, Salisu Galadima ‘Basira’, has revealed that teams should watch out for his wards as they are yet to finish their business in Nigeria’s oldest inter-club football competition.

Galadima made this known to the media shortly after his third division side, against all odds, pipped Nigeria Premier League side, Nasarawa United, 1-0, in the final of the Nasarawa State Football Association Cup decided at the Sports Complex of Federal University, Lafia, on Thursday, 16th March, 2023.

In his words, the overwhelmed Club owner said;

“I feel very happy for the feat my team has attained today in the State.

“Prior to the final, I had told my Club’s media team that we would defeat Nasarawa United by a wide margin, though the game ended in a slim margin in our favour, which is most important.

“I made that statement confidently because I know what I have in my team after watching our previous games enroute to this stage of the competition.

“Our aim was to pick a National Federation Cup ticket, and to the glory of God, we now have it – no better feeling compares to this.

“We are still in the Nationwide League One, and our prayer is to climb higher and advance to the second division of the league in Nigeria, which is the Nigeria National League, and thereafter pick a top-tier ticket, all things being equal.

“Suffice to say that my target and that of my team is to make the entire people of Nasarawa State proud, and how do we do that? Of course, it’s by also reaching the National Federal Cup final.

“Nasarawa United have played twice in the national final, and nothing stops us from equally getting to such height, all things being equal.”

With the victory over Nasarawa United, Basira FC became the second team to win the State FA Cup in the past eleven editions.

Nasarawa United have won the title a record ten times.
