Cameroonian defender, Joyskim Dawa Tchakounte, who suffered racist abuse from his club’s fans a week ago was amongst the scorers this Monday evening in FC Stauea Bucuresti’s 2-2 draw at home to Universitatea Cluj, on match day 11 of the Romanian top-flight championship.
Dawa’s first goal of the season set the tone for the all-exciting night, as the fans were treated to a classic night of football at the National Arena stadium.
Steaua entered the contest against title-chasing Cluj knowing they needed a result to stay afloat after eleven games so far.
Dawa put the host ahead after eight minutes, bundling home a fine-cross from the near post.
Romanian midfielder Dan Nistor responded 20 minutes later, but there was time for Adrian Șut to restore the lead just before the interval.
Șut finished off a great passage of play to make it 2-1, rewarding coach Elias Charalambous, whose side were arguably the better side in the first-half and created more goal scoring opportunities.
Steaua was in full control throughout the second segment and hoped to secure their ninth win of the season but Romanian defender Bogdan Mitrea had other ideas. The sweeper scored two minutes from time to make it 2-2.
The late equalizer meant the host didn’t have time to react and it finished 2-2, giving each of the two clubs a point for their efforts.
FC Steaua Bucuresti remains at the top of the league placing with 26 points from eight wins and two draws in 11 games so far while Cluj.
Dawa has featured in ten of his club’s games so far, scoring his first goal on the Monday night.
