  • Francis Ngannou fell short in his bid to become a boxing champion as he was stopped by Anthony Joshua in two rounds in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
  • The former UFC star, who had stunned Tyson Fury in his boxing debut, faced a formidable challenge in Joshua, who showcased his power and skill

Francis Ngannou suffered a devastating knockout defeat by Anthony Joshua in their heavyweight clash in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The former UFC kingpin, who had challenged WBC champion Tyson Fury to a close split decision in his boxing debut last October, was overwhelmed by Joshua’s power and speed.

Ngannou was dropped in the first round and twice more in the second, before the referee waved off the fight. He was unconscious before he hit the floor and needed medical attention as he left the ring.

Confident it was going to be a knockout against the Brit, the Man from batie spent more time on the ground than he did on his feets.

Joshua, who reclaimed his unified world titles in his previous fight, proved his dominance in the division and set up a potential unification bout with the Tyson Fury, who was seated in the front row.

With this win , the brit (28-3) has extended his winning streak to four, bouncing back from his twin defeats by Usyk.

The two boxers had a respectful exchange after the fight, with Anthony urging Ngannou to stick with boxing.

“He’s an inspiration, a great champion, and this shouldn’t take away from his capabilities. He can come again. I told him he shouldn’t leave boxing. He’s two fights in, and he’s fought the best.
He can go a long way if he stays dedicated.” Joshua’s response to Ngannou’s qualities

Ngannou, apologized to the world for his performance, hoping to correct it in his next bout

“Sorry guys I let you all down 😔 Today was a bad day in the office but tomorrow will be another day.
Thank you all for the love ❤️” Ngannou tweeted

Despite losing the fight, the 37-year-old earned over $20 million, much more than the $600,000 he made in the UFC.
