  • AFC Bournemouth has manifested interest in signing Matip but face competition from other Premier League clubs
  • Matip had eight years of Premier League experience which makes him a ready-made element for clubs wanting to tighten their backline
  • He will leave Liverpool this summer but yet to reveal his next plan

Former Liverpool FC defender Joel Job Matip could continue his career in England and the Premier League as reports of interest from other clubs in the country have emerged barely days after his departure from Anfield was announced.

Reports carried by Express Sport have it that AFC Bournemouth is in the running for the of the 34-year-old and is faced with competition from other clubs.

Matip with eight years of Premier League experience agreed to leave Anfield this summer after Liverpool and himself settled on not extending the long stay that started as far back as 2014 when he joined from Schalke 04.

Though the sweeper is yet to comment on his next move, interest from a country he knows well and his family has settled in is not a bad idea though he could be considering a return to native Germany where it all started.

Any club at which the Premier League, UEFA champions league, FA Cup and other trophies winner ends up at will have acquired a very valuable player with a bag of experience in defending and even operating as a holding midfielder.

For Bournemouth particular, the acquisition of Matip is a need, especially after they conceding 67 Premier League goals this season – making them the fifth worse defense in the English top-flight championship.

The summer promises to be an interesting one for the former Cameroon international who voluntarily retired from playing for the national team eight years ago.

The fact that Matip doesn’t represent his country again in competitions may excite Bournemouth more given that they will loss a number of defenders during next year’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
