Jean Pierre Muth has stepped down from his role as head coach of Avion Academy of Douala following the club’s 0-2 defeat to Stade Renard of Melong last Sunday at the Bepanda Omnisport Annex stadium in Douala.
The fourth defeat in a 15 top-flight games series condemned the club to just two wins in a campaign they can count up to nine draws.
kick442.com learned of the decision from club sources in a chit chat conversation on Monday, February 26 after rumors of the decision from the office of president Pierre Batamak first hit airwaves via social media.
Avion Academy has endured a disastrous season and with just two games left, the Littoral based outfit has picked just 15 points from 15 games. This result is only good enough to secure a place for them in the unwanted relegation playoff schedule at an unannounced venue in the country.
Coach Muth joined the club in the build up to the current season, and was tasked to ensure they at least make it into the top four. Unfortunately for both parties, that hasn’t been attained.
Avion Academy will finish their first phase of the season away to Fauve Azur Elite this Saturday in Yaoundé, before switching her attention to the relegation dogfight.
For the second season running, president Batamak will finish the season in a heart-in-mouth fashion as he battles to beat the drop in a complex eight-clubs relegation playoffs.
Avion Academy secured promotion to the top-flight championship in 2018 as deputy champions of the second tier championship, the club has endured a balanced six-year spell in the big time, during which they mostly were mid-table finishers with the exception of last season.
