The head coach of the Cote D’Ivoire senior men’s national team, Jean Louis Gasset is ready for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) challenge.
The tactician will lead his wards against Guinea Bissau on Saturday as the tournament gets underway in Abidjan.
Filled with the immense pressure of claiming the AFCON title at home, Gasset told journalists during his pre-match press conference that he was up to the task and ready for the challenge.
“We know the top teams like Senegal. I accept the challenge,” he stated
“I am sure that I have the human resources to succeed. I am taking all the necessary steps. Football is all it is. We will play with 11 players and the best team will win.
“All the players are fine. We are within the deadline. Two players that were not fit participated during our last training. In human terms, anything can happen.” He concluded.
The host intends to replicate the feat of countries like Ghana, Nigeria, Tunisia, South Africa, and others that won the competition on home soil.
Standing in their way are favorites like holders, Senegal and 2022 FIFA World Cup semi-finalists, and Morocco amongst others ready to challenge for the trophy.
A victory over Guinea Bissau will set the mark for their quest towards replicating the feat of 2015 when the team last won the title.
