PWD of Bamenda’s fullback Thomas Etta Bawak, has described his recent called up to the Cameroon National team, as a dream come true.

The 28-year-old defender, is one of the two home based players recently called up by Rigobert Song, to fill the absence of Fai Collins and Choupo Moting, ruled out of Cameroon’s double header against Namibia, through injury.

Bawak helped PWD secure a win over Aigle Royal of Menoua on Sunday, but received his call up later that day.

“It’s an opportunity for me once more to showcase my talent,” Bawak said after their training session at the Ngoa Ekelle stadium on Tuesday.

” Playing with the national team has always been my ambition. We’re here to learn and we hope that we’re going to blend with the professionals and have a great game.

“Before coming here, the coach (Rigobert Song), told us that we’re here for seriously business and that it depends on us if we really want to take part in the AFCON. Personally I’m very focused on that and know what is ahead,” he added.

The former cotonsport man, has represented Cameroon in two editions of the CHAN, and was preselected prior to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, though didn’t make the final list. Now he recounts how he received news of his recent call up.

“I received a call around 11pm on Sunday night that I’m supposed to come to the national team. It is a dream come true for me but I took it positively because I’ve always been praying for it and now this is the opportunity.

“I’m highly ambitious because I know there’s another right back and I’m here to represent my club and home based players and I will give my best, so that the coaches can give me the opportunity to prove myself,” said Bawak.

He also discussed about the present atmosphere in the lion’s den.

“The atmosphere is very good, knowing that we have high level players here like Zambo (Anguissa), so we’re there to learn from them and also bring what we know and together we form a great family.”

Thomas Etta Bawak will be hoping to gain a starting spot, when Rigobert Song named his starting XI against Namibia on Friday.
