The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon are in Angola for their match day four commitment of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against the Palancas Negras.
Coach Mark Brys’ team arrived Luanda on board a Boeing 737 of Camair-Co plane registered as TJ-QCA, which immobilized on the tarmac for over three hours before departure late into Sunday evening. The plane
endured a long delay caused by the standoff about staff selection between the country’s minister of Sports and the Cameroon football federation.
Our sources at the Airport revealed that the flight which was scheduled for 4pm finally took off at 7:20pm as the players who had arrived the airport on a private bus service refused to travel with the staff imposed by the FECAFOOT.
The long standoff took multiple interventions including from state officials and more to provide a solution.
Now that the team is in Luanda, it’s on Marc Brys to get his players focused on the task at hand even through the challenging circumstances.
Angola welcome Cameroon to Estadio 11 de Novembro on Tuesday with the possibility of leapfrogging the visitors in CAF World Cup qualifying Group D.
Both sides recorded victories in their last qualifying games and will be looking to take the momentum into this encounter.
Angola are one of three teams in CAF World Cup qualifying Group D – alongside Libya and Cameroon – that are yet to taste defeat after three matches.
Pedro Goncalves’s men will host the strongest side in their group based on pedigree and the current standings, hoping to make it two wins on the bounce.
The head-to-head record between both sides is balanced, with three wins apiece alongside two draws in eight meetings. However, the last time they met in a World Cup qualifier, Angola won 2-0 on home soil after losing the reverse fixture.
Cameroon will be hoping to maintain their position at the top of the group, as they look to make an appearance at the World Cup for the ninth time, having qualified more than any other African nation in history.
