Heartland Queens claim NWFL Super Six playoffs spot in grand style

Heartland Queens have successfully booked her first time ever place in the NWFL Premiership Super Six playoffs, and creditable credits go to the sole financiers, Imo state government under the able leadership of sports loving governor, Dist. Sen. Hope Uzodinma and the workaholic immediate past Commissioner for Youth, Sports & Social Development, Hon. Emeka Okoronkwo over their massive supports and sponsorships.

The elite football showdown among the six best teams in the land has the singular honour to decide the league champions as well as the nation’s candidates for the prestigious continental football competition – CAF Women’s Champions League.

The Owerri mainstreams qualified for the prime competition in her entire history in grand style with a game at hand to topflight newcomers, Dannaz Ladies.

Despite going down twice to the Lagos-based side on matchday on Wednesday at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, a loss that became academic and inconsequential as the only thing the Owerri side missed was the rare opportunity to finish top of the eight-team Group A table.

Even though nothing was at stake in the encounter so to say between the sides in the matchup, the Owerri side showed grits and strengths with her overwhelming domination of proceedings before a clearly inept umpire deliberately chose to mess up what would have been the most entertaining and thrilling game.

Heartland Queens ended the 2023/24 NWFL Premiership regular season on princely 24 points in the eight-team Group A to finish third behind former champions and leaders, Nasarawa Amazons with an impressive and massive seven wins, three draws and four losses.

By virtue of the season’s spectacular performance and qualification for Super Six showdown, Heartland Queens are primed to vie for the league crown and a first time ever chance to claim a ticket to represent the country at the continent.
