Defending Guinness Super League champions Lekie Filles of Yaoundé re-echoed their desire to retain their title on Saturday at the University of Bamenda stadium in Bambili as four of its forwards scored in a five-star display that subjected Ita Mbong to another defeat at home.
Adelpha Sipinyu’s lone goal late in the game ended up being the only positive of the day for the Nkambe girls as Marley Confidence,Anick Managa, Brenda Tabe, Solange Larkingam and Ornella Moluh found the net for coach Stephane Ndzana’s team.
The early kick-off at the Bambili stadium was one of the attractions of the top of the table going into match day 21 as it looked like a potential candidate for a shocker but the Lekie Filles machinery prevailed in style.
Former Vision Sports of Bamenda forward, Marly Confidence scored the opener after 15 minutes and from then on, there was no stopping. Goals from Annick Managa and Tabe Brenda made it 3-0 for the 2023 champions.
The first-half humiliation for the host made it an obligation for them to improve in the second segment. Ita Mbong resumed as an improved side in the second segment and only conceded goals from Larkingam and Moluh while Sipyinyu pulled one back to leave the final score at 5-1.
The victory is Lekie Filles’ 17th in 21 games this season and takes their points tally to 53, three better than FC Ebolowa who face Awa Filles on Sunday in a delayed match day 21 fixture.
Brenda’s goal in Bamenda is her 11th of the below par season while Adelpha took her tally to eight this term.
A win for FC Ebolowa against Awa Filles FC will drag the battle for the 2023/24 Guinness Super League title to the final round of matches next weekend and sustain the suspense through what has been an exciting battle of two of the most consistent clubs this season.
