The boys of coach Anicet Yala picked up the trophy on Friday afternoon at the Stade de Martyrs in Kinshasa DR Congo after they beat Central Africa Republic 2-0 and Congo Republic lost 1-2 to DR Congo who finished runners-up.

Gabon went into the final round of the four-nations tournament with four points as Congo, but holding in mind a win will put them in a better position if second-seeded Congo fails to match their results.

Mebale Alex Jose and substitute Bouanga Oumar scored in either half to ensure the Panthers cap a disappointing zero point tournament for Central Africa Republic.

The Gabonese won the game and moved to seven points, leaving it all for Congo to do in the second game.

Djodjo Kombe scored the opener half hour into the contest but John Itoua leveled in added time to set up a pulsating second segment.

Mardoche Kalengalenga sent the home crowd into total frenzy as they were just minutes away from their second victory of the competition.

The derby ended on the 2-1 score in favor of the host this crowning captain Notta and his Gabonese mates champions of the competition.
