Former Real Madrid boss Zenedine Zidane has been linked to the vacant Desert Foxes of Algeria coaching job barely 24 hours after the country’s football Federation opted to part ways with Djamel Belmadi.
Reports from multiple sources in France have it that the Zidane who is of Algerian descent is one of multiple options the country’s football association is speaking to as they embark on the search to get a new guide for the two-time AFCON champions.
However, Zidane has never managed outside of Spain and his last stint in management remains his second spell at Real from 2019 to 2021.
Zidane, 52, won the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup twice, as well as a La Liga title and Supercopa and three UEFA Champions League titles.
Algeria was bundled out of the 2023 AFCON for the second tournament running which amounted to the dismissal of Djamel Belmadi and the search for the new trainer.
Should the Zidane deal happen, he will need to rebuild an almost new team as a bunch of the players that helped the North African nation achieve its second AFCON triumph in 2019.
