  • Yong Sports Academy (YOSA) has been penalized with a three-point deduction and now stands at seven points, dropping from second to sixth in the playoff rankings
  •  The disciplinary measures come after a confrontation involving YOSA officials and fans with the match referee during their game against Canon
  •  Additionally, player Hamidou Hamza and four team officials have received a four-match ban, and the club faces a fine of 1,000,000 FCFA

Yong Sports Academy’s aspirations for the title have been dashed as the Bamenda-based team faced a significant penalty following a recent match.

The club, previously positioned for a strong finish in the playoffs, has been docked three points due to unsportsmanlike conduct during their encounter with Canon.

This deduction has had a substantial impact on the team’s standing, reducing their total points from ten to seven and causing them to plummet from a commendable second place to a distant sixth.

The incident that led to this harsh penalty occurred during the sixth day of the playoffs at the Bonamoussadi Stadium. It involved a contentious dispute where YOSA’s officials and supporters aggressively confronted referee Tanyi Shadrach and his assistants, accusing them of biased officiating.

The fallout from this altercation has been severe, with player Hamidou Hamza and four officials—Ndikum Blaise, Nji Nelson Chefor, Suh Gashu Magellan, and Ayuketang Kome Thomas—receiving a four-match suspension. Moreover, the club has been fined 1,000,000 FCFA, adding financial insult to their competitive injury.

With YOSA effectively out of the title race, the spotlight now shifts to Victoria United and Stade Renard, who are poised to battle it out for supremacy.

In other developments, the homologation commission of the Cameroon football federation has dismissed Cotonsport’s complaint against Stade Renard, as well as Gazelle’s grievance regarding Wilfred Douala Nathan of Victoria United, ensuring that the focus remains firmly on the field of play as the season reaches its climax.
