Women’s Beach soccer is gaining momentum in Uganda with the End Of The Year Women’s Beach Soccer Festival.
Opening Matchday on Friday, December 30, saw Uganda Martyrs earned a 5-1 win over Junior Team.
Catherine Nagadya scored four goals for Martyrs with Brenda Munyana with the other goal.
Reticia Nakyeyune pulled a goal back for Kampala Junior Team.
In the second game, Nansana Ladies followed Uganda Martyrs’ footsteps with a 5-2 win against Makindye Bees with Cissy Nantongo scoring three goals.
Justin Najjuko converted two goals for Nansaa Ladies while Samalie Nakachwa and Hasifah Nassuna scored for Makindye Bees.
Elsewhere, Gomba Ladies upended Nile Queens 8-3 with Shamsa Najjuma scoring five goals alongside two goals from Latifa Nakasi and a goal by Sumaiya Nalumu.
Sharot Namugenyi, Judith Mauwa, and Sumaiya Namugalo scored a goal apiece for Nile Queens.
Three goals from Susan Nalukoda propelled Mpata Ladies to a 5-1 win over Talented Ladies.
Nansana Ladies defeated Nile Queens 6-1 in its second game of the day while Uganda Martyrs also bashed Talented Ladies 8-0.
Women’s Beach Soccer is not as popular as men’s Beach soccer and it just coming up in Africa compared to its popularity in Europe.
This kind of tournament will in a long run serve as a springboard for the development of women’s Beach soccer in Africa.
