Women Military World Cup: Cameroon wins bronze

A hat trick from Lekie’s goal poacher Raissa Nnanga and one from Naomi Eto was enough for team Cameroon to see off the Netherlands 4-0 in the third place match on Friday, June 7,2023.

The girls of Josephine Mike Ndoumou finished third, clinching the bronze medal, a well-deserved compensation after missing out on a chance to make a second consecutive final appearance.

The indomitable military lionesses leave the Netherlands with four wins, three clean sheets in five games played.

From a two – nil win over Belgium in the opener to a 4-2 win over the United States and lastly , a brace from Buh Confidence and one each from Brenda Tabe Ebika and Naomi Eto helped Cameroon record a fine group outing.

Their Semi final opponents, however, proved too strong for the 2022 highest goal scorer in this competition, Brenda Tabe and teammates, as they were outsmarted by South Korea 4-1 to deprive them of another finals.

A bronze medal in the 14th edition of the military women’s world cup is no mean achievement as the other African representative, Tanzania, crashed out in the group stage.
