Cotonsport of Garoua’s midfielder Kaiba Djawal is confident Mamelodi Sundowns’ 15-game unbeaten run can be stopped at the Roumde Adjia stadium this Friday.
In the pre-match press conference held on Thursday in Garoua, the 20-year-old talked of the possibility of defeating the south African giants (Sundown) if they apply the same pressure and intensity as in their last fixture against Renaissance de Ngoumou.
“The fact that they have consecutive victories doesn’t scare us. We are at home and from a match with so much intensity (Renaissance de Ngoumou); if we put up the same intensity against Sundown, we are certain we will get all 3 points.” Kaiba Djawal explains
The team’s loss to Eding Sport last Wednesday is far behind them, with their minds set on starting the CAF Champions League with a victory on home soil.
“The public will be there for us; Garoua is our home; besides, we are playing at Roumde Adjia, which is our locality; we will give it our all so as to win the 3 points; we will do the needful so as to start the competition with a victory,” Djawal continues.
For a team entering this competition for the first time in five years, the Cotonites do have a great challenge in Sundowns, whose last participation in the last edition saw them through to the quarterfinals.
Luckily for Gabriel Haman, he will have a full squad to stop the likes of Mailula and Peter Shalulile in their opponents’ camp.
“There are no injuries recorded, which is good for the match,” affirms Ernest Agbor, co-coach of Coton Sport.
With three points already in the bag for 2016 CAFCL champions Mamelodi Sundowns, a win against Cotonsport will help them maintain top position going into day 3. A win that won’t be served on a platter of gold.
Bogani Zungu, midfielder for Sundown’s, talks of the quality found in the Garoua-based side and their physicality posing a problem for them.
