The final match of the 2023 Ejigbo Ward Soccer Competition took place at Ejigbo Baptist High School Field, Osun state with Ward 4 beating Ward 8 on penalties to win the title on Friday.
The game ended 0-0 after regulation time resulting in penalty shootouts.
Ward 4 won the game of wills 4-2 scoring four out of their five penalties while Ward 8 scored two of their four spot kicks.
Ward 2 won the third-place match ahead of Ward 10.
Saheed Salaudeen smiled home with the best goalkeeper award as Oluyole Abiodun won the highest goal scorer prize.
Saheed Olawuyi emerged as the most valuable player of the competition.
The organiser of the competition, Mufutau Ayoola (also known as Murphy) after the final match disclosed the motive behind the tournament.
“I used this competition to compensate the Chairman of Ejigbo Local Government, Honourable Isa Sofoluwe because he is such a personality that embraces young ones,” Ayoola told www kick442.com
“It is also a thing to make him happy because he encouraged me to keep pushing while I was discouraged in my political journey till we emerged victorious with our political party.
“To repay and compensate him for his goodwill, I decided to start this competition.
“Since we started this grassroots competition in the name of our local government chairman till the end, everything went on smoothly and we thank God for the beginning and the end of the competition.” He concluded.
