Cameroon’s U20 Lions will begin their campaign for a place at the 2027 Africa U20 Cup of Nations with a Group A clash against Chad on October 12 in Yaoundé.
The young Indomitable Lions have been drawn alongside Chad and the Central African Republic in Group A of the UNIFFAC qualifying tournament, which will be played in Cameroon from October 12 to 24. The competition brings together six Central African nations, with the finalists earning qualification for the continental tournament.
Coach Yvan Kenmoe has been working with the U20 squad for several months as he builds a new generation of players capable of carrying Cameroon’s colours at continental level. The team’s preparation has included several training camps, with the technical staff focusing on tactical organisation, pressing, ball circulation, finishing and team cohesion.
Cameroon will open the tournament at 1:00pm on October 12, facing Chad at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaoundé. The hosts will then have to wait until October 18 for their second and final group match, when they take on the Central African Republic, also at 1:00pm.
For Kenmoe, the tournament represents the next major test of a rebuilding project that has already seen hundreds of young players monitored during the selection process. The coach has previously stressed the importance of developing cohesion within the squad as Cameroon prepares to fight for a return to the continental U20 stage.
With only two group matches, there will be little room for error. Cameroon will be expected to make home advantage count, negotiate the Chad test successfully and then secure a positive result against the Central African Republic to reach the knockout phase.
The mission is clear for Kenmoe and his young Lions: reach the final in Yaoundé and book Cameroon’s place at the 2027 Africa U20 Cup of Nations.
